Our People

JHL Constructors, Inc. has succeeded in creating a team of exceptional employees with the education and experience capable of building diverse and complex projects. Our staff is a small group of over-achievers, driving each other’s success. We capitalize on our youthful core of people, keeping us in touch with the latest technology, trends and demands of an ever-changing industry.

At JHL the word ‘team’ has special significance; we reward team players and seek to establish lifelong relationships with our employees. Several employees are stockholders in the company (pictured above). JHL is committed to producing superior quality buildings by maintaining a diverse staff of well educated, seasoned professionals who are capable of completing even the most complex projects.

Leadership

John Hachmeister – Founder/CEO/President

John is the founder and president of JHL Constructors. John graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Construction and has spent the past 40 years in the Colorado construction industry.  After working in the industry for several years, John founded JHL Constructors in 1987. John currently oversees all of the company’s operations and is personally involved in each project. 

John and his wife Beverly have three grown children and two Burmese mountain dogs. John and his wife are both actively involved in Colorado CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and donate both time and money to the organization. John also serves on the Denver Rescue Mission’s Board of Directors. John’s professional affiliations include; Associated Builders and Contractors (served on the board of directors), Associated General Contractors of America, and American Society of Professional Estimators.

Tim Balas, LEED AP – Vice President

Tim graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Building Construction. He has over 35 years of continuous experience in the construction industry. Tim has held the positions of Carpenter, Superintendent, Project Manager, Estimator, and now Vice President of Preconstruction. Tim has been with JHL since 1991 and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Tim is responsible for managing all estimating and preconstruction activities. When he isn’t working, which is very rare, Tim spends his free time golfing and with friends. 

Brian Townsend – Vice President - Preconstruction

Brian was born in Colorado, but grew up in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, and Long Island before he made it back to Colorado in 1994. Brian studied Architectural Tehnologies at the New York Institute of Technology. In 1979, Brian went to work for Gresitza-Oehlers Architects, a small design/build firm. He  began his construction career as a Project Manager for a large interior carpentry firm in New Jersey. . After the market crashed, Brian made his way back to Colorado and began working for a local drywall company as the Division Manager. The company was a subcontractor of JHL’s. Brian was recruited by JHL in 2003 and was hired on as the Director of Preconstruction. Brian was promoted to Vice President of Field Operations in 2007 and Vice President of Preconstruction in 2011. 

Brian is married to Yvonne, has two boys, Dillion and Chris, and two grandchildren, Leslie and Dakota. Brian's dog Isabelle goes everywhere with him when he isn’t at work. Brian enjoys spending his time renovating his house (which he can’t seem to finish…) and gourmet cooking with his wife.

Brad Schmahl, LEED AP – Vice President - Business Development

Brad, a native of Colorado, came to work for JHL as an intern in May of 2001 while he was attending the Construction Management program at Colorado State University. Brad graduated with honors and received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in 2003. Brad began his career with JHL as a Project Engineer and worked his way up the ranks becoming a Project Manager in 2003, a company stockholder in 2005, and achieved his current position as Vice President in 2010. During this time, Brad also married his college sweetheart Dana and started a family, being blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, Taylor and Halle. His daily job duties include overseeing day-to-day office operations, marketing, and business development. 

His industry accomplishments include being nominated into the Associated General Contractors Future Leader’s Forum in 2009 and then was nominated by his peers in the group onto the committee as the marketing chair for 2010. He also stays very active at Colorado State University serving on the Professional Advisory Development Board and enjoys speaking to intern students every semester.  Brad has volunteered through both JHL and AGC at the Denver Rescue Mission, spoken at area high schools and middle schools to generate interest in youths about our industry, and helped plan JHL’s Kid’s Classic Golf tournament to benefit the Douglas County CASA organization.  Brad is excited about his future with JHL and looks very forward to growing with the company.   

Ben Stellor, LEED AP – Vice President - Operations

Ben Stellor came to work for JHL in March of 2005 while he was completing his final semester of college in the Construction Management program at Colorado State University. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree and graduated with honors in 2005. Ben has held the positions of Project Engineer, Superintendent, Project Manager, and now Vice President of Operations. Ben became a company stockholder in 2006. His daily job duties include managing multiple construction projects and overseeing JHL’s safety and risk management program. 

Ben’s industry accomplishments include being nominated into the Associated General Contractors Future Leader’s Forum in 2010 and gaining JHL’s OSHA C.H.A.S.E. (Construction Health and Safety Excellence) partnership for the company in 2010. Ben was recently recognized as Project Manager of the Year by the Colorado Chapter of Independent Electrical Contractors Association. Ben is very excited about the future of JHL and looks forward to helping the company continue to grow. 

Project Managers & Engineers

Matt Croghan – Project Manager

Matt graduated from Colorado State University in 2005 from the Construction Management program. His experience includes working as a purchasing agent, an estimator, and a project engineer. His daily responsibilities include RFI’s, submittals, writing contracts, monthly billings, and budget tracking. Matt enjoys the family-feel at JHL and the ethical approach to business.

Matt spends his time outside of work with his wife Ann camping/backpacking, snowboarding, fishing, and four-wheeling.

Samuel Schupbach - Project Manager

Sam received his degree in Applied Science in Architectural Drafting from the Denver Institute of Technology in 1994. His experience includes working as a CAD Engineer, BIM Team Leader, Estimator, and Project Manager. Sam is experienced in building all types of facilities; including education, healthcare, municipal, and office facilities. He recently received an Award of Excellence on his work associated with the Clyfford Still Museum. Away from work, Sam enjoys spending time with his family and watching all of the local major sports teams.  


 Aimee Clode, LEED AP – Project Engineer

Aimee’s background isn’t that of the typical Project Engineer. She earned her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Colorado Boulder and her Master’s degree in Forensic Science/Computer Forensics from the University of New Haven. In addition to her degrees, Aimee is a LEED Accredited Professional and has taken several surveying and blueprint reading classes through Red Rocks Community College. Her daily responsibilities include assisting Project Manager’s with contracts, change orders, RFI’s, submittals, pay applications, and budget tracking. Aimee’s favorite thing about JHL is that if you have the drive and are willing to learn you will move up in the company. Aimee became a JHL stockholder in 2010.

Aside from work, Aimee spends her time with her husband Bryan and two young children, Riley and Maddox. 

 Office Support

Sarah Walling – HR Director

Sarah began working for JHL as a receptionist in 2004 when she moved from Ohio to Colorado. Sarah has worked her way through the ranks and is now in charge of human resources, managing equipment and insurance, assisting John Hachmeister, and managing the office.

In addition to her daily responsibilities, Sarah also provides the entire office with fashion tips and “how to be awesome advice”. When she isn’t at work, Sarah loves to golf, spend time with her friends and her dog Boomer, and go shopping.

Meghan Bodah, LEED AP – Marketing/Business Development

Meghan manages proposals and all internal/external marketing for JHL. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Meghan’s construction experience includes working as a project engineer, an estimator, and now in marketing and business development.

Outside of work, Meghan enjoys spending time with her husband Roger and playing soccer. 

Patty Trout – Project Administrator

As a Project Administrator, Patty’s responsibilities include assisting Project Managers with daily organizational and clerical responsibilities on projects. What she has to say about JHL, “JHL represents an integrity and genuine pride in the job they do. We are a family, good and bad. And John Hachmeister rocks!”

Patty studied Theater Arts at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena. She has spent 18 years collectively performing at the Country Dinner Playhouse, Heritage Square, and Littleton Town Hall. Patty also does custom cake decorating, ‘Patty Cakes’.

Ian Randall - Controller

Ian received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Nazareth College located in Rochester, New York.  After graduating in 2006 he started at Mengel Metzger Barr & Co., LLP where he spent the five years in the Rochester based accounting firm’s assurance department, specializing in the construction, manufacturing and retirement plan industries.  Ian recently relocated to Colorado in 2011. 

 

Patricia Marlow – Assistant Accountant

Pat was born and raised in Michigan. She moved to Colorado in 1987 and began working for JHL in 1990. She enjoys the everyday challenges of making the debits and credits balance. Pat says “JHL is a group of people with a good sense of humor, good attitudes, and they make the work day enjoyable.”

 

 
Kara Carreon – Accounts Payable

Kara received her Associate’s degree from Metro State College. She has been in the construction industry since 1997 and with JHL since 2006. Her thoughts on JHL; “Everyone here has a great work ethic and the company really appreciates the employees.”

Kara spends her time away from work with her husband Joe and son Chander. She enjoys watching her son’s sporting events and attending his modeling auditions and events.

Preconstruction & Estimating

Scott Priebe, LEED AP – Estimator

Scott was born and raised in Colorado. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University in 2002. While attending CSU, Scott interned at JHL and has been an employee ever since. He has served as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Superintendent, and now an Estimator. Scott became a JHL stockholder in 2004.

While attending CSU, Scott played Lacrosse and won 2 National Championships. He is still involved in the CSU Lacrosse Alumni Association and volunteers time coaching youth lacrosse. Scott lives with two of the most important women in his life (besides his mom), his fiancée Cheri and his pooch Belle Parker.

Becky Dunn – Estimating Administrator

Becky’s primary responsibility at JHL is assisting the preconstruction/estimating department with administration. During her 18 years with JHL she has also been involved in prequalification document preparation and human resources. Becky also assumes responsibility for coordinating the annual holiday party for JHL employees and clients. Becky became a JHL stockholder in 2010.

Outside activities include involvement with the pre-school ministry and food ministry at Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church and traveling with her husband, Cayce.

Superintendents

 

Dale Hartman, LEED AP – Superintendent

Dale Hartman, a native of Colorado, started with JHL in 1986.  He worked with JHL for 8 years.  In 1994, Dale and his wife/family decided to try a small town environment on the western slope to raise their two daughters.  In 2006, JHL hired Dale back to do a school project for them in Montrose, Colorado.  The next year, with the girls finishing up their high school days in Cedaredge, Dale returned to work with JHL in the Front Range.

On a personal note, Dale has been happily married over 28 years to Debbie Hartman.  His two daughters, Jamie and Jordan, currently are going to college in Greeley.  This works out great for Dale and Deb since they love to spend time with their daughters.  Dale volunteers and sings in the Chancel Choir at their local church in Longmont.  He loves to get outdoors and fish, hike, or ski.  All of which he claims he doesn’t do enough of.

Jason Hegge – Superintendent

Jason started his career in construction in 1995 as a Laborer/Carpenter. In 1997, he started a framing contractor business, JAHCO Builders. Jason’s company framed projects ranging from large multi-family developments and custom homes to commercial buildings. In 2000, Jason started a career with Trammel Crow as an Assistant Superintendent. In 2005 he was promoted to Superintendent. Jason joined JHL in 2006. Why he likes JHL? “JHL takes great pride in all of the projects that they do and the company really appreciates and respects employee talent and effort.”

When he isn’t at work, Jason spends time with his wife Shelley. He enjoys everything outdoors (skiing, bicycling, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc..), traveling, cooking, woodworking, and working on cars.

Terry Braun – Superintendent

Terry has been with JHL for more than 15 years. He began his construction career as a Carpenter and worked his way into the Superintendent role. Terry became a JHL stockholder in 1995.

 

 

 

 Tom Weaver – Superintendent

Tom started with JHL in 1997 as a Carpenter and worked his way up to becoming a Superintendent. The majority of Tom’s work experience has been in occupied remodels. Tom is a stockholder with JHL.

Tom is married with three children and enjoys camping, boating, and watching any of Colorado’s pro sports teams. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion and volunteers at the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

 Elmer Waldschmidt – Superintendent

Elmer started his construction career as a Foreman and worked his way through the ranks to become a Superintendent. Elmer joined JHL in 1992 and is a stockholder.  

 

 

 

Eric Larchick – Superintendent

Eric started with JHL in 1996 as an Assistant Superintendent. In 2000, he completed the CITC Carpenter CITC Apprenticeship Training. Eric worked his way up to a Superintendent and became a stockholder in 2010. 


 

Mike Ohl – Superintendent

Mike has over 17 years of construction experience. He joined JHL in 2006 and became a stockholder in 2010. 

 

 

  

Tony Cuevas – Superintendent

Tony grew up in Lincoln, California. He started his construction career in 1993 installing underground utilities while attending Sierra College. After doing underground construction for several years, he started building grocery stores in several different states for Raley’s Supermarkets. With a wife and young family, Tony decided to stop traveling for work and began working for Meritage Homes as a Warranty Representative. He quickly rose to a Superintendent and managed several subdivisions ranging from 100 to 1,500 homes with more than 20 models. Tony came to work for JHL in 2009 and is looking forward to the opportunity to grow with the company. 

 Cory Jackson – Superintendent

Cory, a Colorado native, grew up in Elizabeth. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor's of Environmental Design in Architecture. Cory began his career in construction in 1999 and joined JHL in 2001. Cory has a wide variety of construction project experience, including; K-12 education, church, retail, multi-family, and light industrial. Cory has been married to his beautiful wife Danae since 2008.
