Our People

JHL Constructors, Inc. has succeeded in creating a team of exceptional employees with the education and experience capable of building diverse and complex projects. Our staff is a small group of over-achievers, driving each other’s success. We capitalize on our youthful core of people, keeping us in touch with the latest technology, trends and demands of an ever-changing industry.

At JHL the word ‘team’ has special significance; we reward team players and seek to establish lifelong relationships with our employees. Several employees are stockholders in the company (pictured above). Leadership

John Hachmeister - President & Founder
John is the President and Founder of JHL Constructors. He graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Construction and has spent the past 40 years in the Colorado construction industry.  John founded JHL Constructors in 1987. He currently oversees the company’s operations and is personally involved in each project. 

Tim Balas, LEED AP - Vice President of Estimating
Tim graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Building Construction. He has over 35 years of experience in the construction industry. Tim has held the positions of Carpenter, Superintendent, Project Manager, Estimator, Chief Estimator, and now Vice President of Estimating. Tim has been with JHL since 1991 and is responsible for managing the estimating department. 
 
Brian Townsend - Vice President of Preconstruction
Brian has over 30 years of project management and design/build experience in all areas of architectural design, general contracting, and commercial development. His in-depth understanding of what it takes to go from concept, to drawings, to the actual building, makes him an invaluable member of any construction team. Brian studied Architectural Technologies at the New York Institute of Technology and has worked for both architectural and construction firms. He joined JHL in 2003 and currently oversees the company’s preconstruction services. 
 
Ben Stellor, LEED AP - Vice President of Operations
Ben began his career at JHL Constructors in 2005 as a Project Engineer after completing his degree in Construction Management at Colorado State University and has held the positions of Superintendent, Project Manager, and now Vice President of Operations.  Ben is responsible for the management of all aspects of field construction, operations personnel management, and safety and risk management on a variety of project types.  
 
Brad Schmahl, LEED AP - Vice President of Business Development
Brad joined JHL as an intern in 2001 while he was attending the Construction Management program at Colorado State University. He graduated with honors and received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in 2003. Brad began his career with JHL as a Project Engineer and worked his way up the ranks becoming a Project Manager in 2003, and achieved his current position as Vice President in 2010. Brad is responsible for JHL’s business development and marketing departments. 
 
Jonathan Hachmeister - Development Manager
Jonathan graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in business management. For the past five years, he has facilitated the real development division of the company. He has experience in contract review, acquisition/disposition, finance, site selection, entitlement, lease negotiation, and property management.
 
Ian Randall - Controller
Ian received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Nazareth College located in Rochester, New York. He has spent the past 10 years specializing in accounting for construction firms. Ian oversees the accounting and human resources departments.
