BEST Grant Professionals

JHL has been committed to the BEST Program since its inception in 2008. Since then, we have helped 15 schools with BEST Grant Funding, have completed $200M+ in BEST Grant projects in the past ten years, and have assisted in numerous master plans/grant applications. Through this experience, we understand the budget and schedule challenges inherent in every BEST project. We have the knowledge and experience to deliver a project on time and within the fixed budget.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Julesburg PK-12 Replacement School

Julesburg, CO

This 80,000 square foot Design-Build project will include a new athletic complex, comprised of a football field with lighting, track, bleachers, press box, and practice field. The site will also include parking lots to support the daily needs along with additional parking for athletics and other after hours activities. New playgrounds will also be constructed to support primary and secondary students. Following completion of the new facility, abatement and demolition of the existing school sites will begin. This project is BEST funded and will be built to CO-CHPS Leader Certifications.

27J Schools

Commerce City + Thornton, CO

SOUTHLAWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 
This 66,800 SF prototype school was a phased project that includes classrooms and shared workspaces, common school amenities, art and music rooms, and a gymnasium. The school also has multiple playgrounds and a synthetic turf field.

DISCOVERY MAGNET SCHOOL
This school is a prototype of the existing Reunion, Padilla and Southlawn Elementary Schools. Sitework includes site development, mass excavation, site export, utilities, hardscapes, landscaping and playgrounds. Interior program will include classrooms, gymnasium, art rooms, library, maker space, special education rooms, administrative space, music room and platform. Scope will be modified from the three previous prototypes to include a K-8.

Central Kitchen and Education Center

Boulder, CO

BOULDER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT
This 34,000 square foot central kitchen features a loading dock with a fresh food processing area for deliveries from local farms, three food prep areas, over 7,000 square feet of dry, refrigerated, and frozen food storage, a blast chill area, and administrative spaces. An on site café serves scratch-cooked, locally sourced meals to the public and campus staff. The facility accommodates the ‘No Student Hungry’ bag program with a dedicated area for bag assembly, as well as conference space to host nutrition education and food literacy classes. Future plans include a teaching kitchen for cooking classes, special events, and seminars. The Education Center portion of the project includes demolition of the east wing, a new two-story structure, and complete renovation of the remainder of the facility.

Cherry Creek School District

Englewood, CO

WOODLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
This two-story L-shaped building is designed to provide several direct connections to outdoor spaces on both floors. The building embodies a modern aesthetic and offers clean lines and strong forms integrated across the 82,000 SF. Inside, there are multiple direct connections to the outdoors ensuring bright learning opportunities in cluster  classrooms, a maker-space, art room, library, a gym-a-torium that blends a performance stage and competitive-sized basketball court. The building also incorporates health and wellness considerations put in place by COVID safety protocols such as wider hallways, hand-washing stations, and optimized air circulation.

CHERRY CREEK INNOVATION CENTER
This 117,000 square foot career-focused campus includes of a variety of learning environments and social spaces from traditional classrooms for instruction, to more intense labs and industry-specific spaces that support real-world training or trade certification programs. The campus supports different pathways for students to explore potential careers or college degrees, including advanced manufacturing, business services, culinary/hospitality, health services, infrastructure engineering, IT/STEAM, and transportation.

Highlands P8

Aurora, CO

AURORA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
This new P8 school will be two-stories constructed with on spread footings and a crawlspace on slab on grade. The school is constructed under the 2015 IBC and is construction Type II-B. The total finished square footage is approximately 105,000 SF. The school will consist of preschool through 8th-grade students and staff.

St. Vrain Valley School District

Niwot + Longmont, CO

SKYLINE + NIWOT TURF FIELD REPLACEMENT
These existing sod fields were replaced with new artificial turf that included rerouting of the existing irrigation, demo and grading, under-field drainage system, concrete perimeter curbing, and new turf surfacing.
