Our History: A Legacy Built on People, Relationships, and Doing the Right Thing—Always

 

JHL Constructors was founded on a simple belief: people and relationships make the difference in building a successful company.

 

Our founder, John L. Hachmeister, believed that doing the right thing—always—was the foundation for earning trust, creating lasting partnerships, and building a company that would make a positive impact. His passion for fostering connections and strengthening Colorado communities continues to guide who we are today and remains the promise we make to our clients, partners, and employees.

 

On January 28, 1986, John made the decision to pursue a new vision and begin building what would become JHL Constructors. After spending the remainder of that year laying the groundwork for his new venture, John officially launched JHL in February 1987. What started as one person’s commitment to hard work and relationships has grown into a team of employees who proudly carry forward his legacy.

 

Nearly four decades later, the pride and responsibility our employees feel in being part of the JHL team remain as strong as ever.

John’s approach to success was straightforward:

Be honest.

Have integrity.

Work hard to foster relationships.

Save on the small stuff.

These principles guided not only the way John built JHL, but also the way he lived his life. He believed that thoughtful decisions mattered—even in the smallest details. Known for his practical approach and resourceful mindset, John encouraged others to look for value before looking for something new. Whether reminding employees to check the bottom of a drawer before ordering more paper clips or teaching his children the value of saving by adding their own cheese to a fast-food hamburger at home, John’s lessons were simple: be resourceful, be responsible, and appreciate what you have.

Outside of work, John’s curiosity and passions extended far beyond construction. He enjoyed classic cars, jazz, golf, the Denver Broncos, saltwater fish tanks, the Indy 500, fishing, German chocolate cake, and hash browns, among many other interests. Each reflected a different part of who John was—a person who valued craftsmanship, curiosity, and the enjoyment found in life’s everyday moments.

Today, the pride and responsibility our employees feel in carrying on John’s legacy remain as strong as ever. His vision continues to guide JHL as we build lasting relationships, serve our communities, and deliver work we can all be proud of.

John built more than a company. He built a legacy.
