September 2022 – Ribbon Cutting, Southlawn Elementary School
Commerce City, CO – District 27J grew its community with the addition of Southlawn Elementary School. On September 16th, JHL celebrated the grand opening of the new 39,500 SF single-story prototype school along with school administration, students, and staff.
Designed by Hord Coplan Macht, the facility will serve approximately 400 students and includes all your common school amenities, special rooms, art and music rooms, and a gymnasium. The school also has multiple playgrounds designated for different classes and a synthetic turf field.
“The success of this project was truly a Team effort. The entire Team went out of their way to come together on solving any challenges that came up through the course of construction. This project would not be the success it is without the collaborative support of 27J, Hord Coplan Macht, and Anser Advisory”, says Project Manager, Stephen Schaunaman.
Proudly named the Southlawn Bumblebees, the school exemplifies their values of Belonging, Excellence and Empathy with design touches throughout the facility including encouraging murals throughout its corridors to empower students. “The experience working with the 27J Team was top-notch! Their involvement in the project and commitment to the students was shown every day. It is wonderful to see that the district cares so much for developing an outstanding learning environment”, continues Schaunaman.
