December 2023 – Soft Opening, Parker Water & Sanitation District’s New Operations, Maintenance & Administration Building

Parker, CO – On December 18th, Parker Water & Sanitation District (PWSD) celebrated the soft opening of its state-of-the-art Operations, Maintenance & Administration Building. Representatives from JHL Constructors (JHL) and Perkins & Will (P&W) joined PWSD employees to welcome them to their new building.

With a primary focus on creating ample space for long-term growth, PWSD strategically acquired land near the Reuter-Hess reservoir in Parker, Colorado. Following a meticulous study of the site by P&W, it became evident that the new building should integrate with the natural landscape and embrace the hillside. The imaginative idea of using a drop of water as inspiration resulted in the creation of a curved building that harmoniously blends with the hillside today.

Kirsten Collins, Project Engineer at JHL, expressed her admiration for the inspired design and location, stating, “It has been truly amazing to witness the new Parker Water Operations and Administration Building fill the footprint of what was once a grassy hillside. Viewing architectural renderings on a screen was one thing, but witnessing the completed building in person is absolutely breathtaking. It has seamlessly taken the footprint of the hillside and truly embodies the vision of sustainability and nature intended by the team. It is a source of immense pride, and I consider myself fortunate to have played a role in bringing these values to life through the construction of this fundamentally necessary expansion for Parker Water.”

Since breaking ground in April 2022, this two-story, 139,000 GSF building has become a testament to rich history, collaborative teamwork, and unique design and sustainability elements. In the initial construction phases, JHL uncovered archaeological artifacts that narrate the story of the land’s history. This discovery was exceptionally meaningful to the team, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for the land’s past while seamlessly weaving it into the present and future of Parker Water.

A more formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Elected Officials, JHL, and Perkins & Will teams, is scheduled for the Spring of 2024.
